📌Day 1 - Bellerive + Mt Wellington
Abundance on the Quay - This is my favourite place for breakfast and brunch recently. They use fresh local ingredients from Tasmania. The food and atmosphere are very Tasmanian. The key point is that there is a large dining table that can accommodate a large group, but it is often full. It is recommended to call and reserve a seat two days in advance.
Breakfast: Abundance on the Quay Shop 1/5 Clarence St, Bellerive TAS 7018 Mon - Fri 8am - 2:00 pm Kitchen / 2:30 pm Coffee Saturday - 8am - 3pm Sunday 8am - 1:00 pm |
After breakfast, you may want to take a stroll to the nearby Bellerive Yacht Club to enjoy the scenery of Derwent River . There are many sailboats moored here, and you may even see blue bioluminescence at night. You can take a ferry from Brooke Street Pier on Hobart waterfront to Bellerive, which takes about 15 minutes one way. Pay the fare in cash, or buy a Metro Card at the Metro office on Collins Street in Hobart. It functions like Octopus in Hong Kong. If you don't plan to drive yourself, remember to buy one when you arrive, so that you can take the bus and ferry easily.
Seeing that the weather was good, we decided to rush to Mount Wellington, a must-see landmark in Hobart. With an altitude of 1,271 meters, it is the best place to overlook the entire Hobart. In winter, you have a chance to see snow! Be especially careful when traveling by car to Mount Wellington. The road up the mountain is winding, and there is a section of the road right next to the cliff. Be aware that the road surface is slippery during winter and early in the morning. It takes about 40 minutes to drive from the centre of Hobart to the top of Mount Wellington. If you are not comfortable with driving on mountain roads, you may consider taking the Explorer Bus . There are many trails on the mountain, and it is worth taking the time to choose one. Because the climate on the mountain is unpredictable, remember to bring warm clothes!
If you have spare time after that, you can arrange to go to MONA (Museum of Old and New Art) on the same day. MONA's artworks are famous for the themes of sex and death. Even if they are not your cup of tea, the locals do their best to introduce you to it. Because the architectural design and landscape alone are worth the price of admission. The museum is buried in the cliff wall of the Derwent River Peninsula. The rock wall is preserved in the museum. It is very rough and primitive. At the same time, it coexists with avant-garde artworks. The whole museum is full of visual impact. Another reason why MONA is very controversial is that the owner David Walsh got rich through gambling, and some of the collections in the museum were won by gambling! Although it is a private museum, the Dark Mofo festival held every June brings huge revenue to Tasmania's tourism industry. It is a place that Tasmanians are very proud of and a must-visit.
MONA 655 Main Rd, Berriedale TAS 7011 Fridays to Mondays 10am - 5pm |
📌Day 2 - Bruny Island
The next morning, I took my friends to Villino Coffee. Many coffee shops in Tasmania use coffee beans roasted by Villino. I usually buy Villino's Synergy Espresso Blend to make coffee at home. Friends who love coffee should remember to buy a few bags of coffee beans to bring the taste of Tasmania home!
Breakfast: Villino Coffee 30 Criterion St, Hobart TAS 7000 Mondays to Fridays 8.30pm - 4.30pm Saturdays 9am - 3pm |
After breakfast, we headed to Bruny Island. The only way to get to the island is to take a ferry from the Kettering Ferry Terminal. The ferry takes both people and cars, and the road on the island is flat, so you can easily drive around. Tickets can be purchased at the terminal, and there is a ferry every 20 minutes. Just check the time of the first and last ferry of the day before departure.
Bruny Island is best known for Get Shucked Oysters. In addition to oysters, there are also local cheese factories, honey, and whiskey. Tasmanian specialties are all gathered on this island. In addition to eating and drinking, the island is also full of magnificent landscapes, wildlife, and beautiful beaches. The island is like a miniature of Tasmania.

If you want to explore Bruny Island in depth, you can consider staying overnight. Bruny Island is a great place to chase the aurora and watch the Milky Way in the night sky. There are also many unique accommodations on the island. If time permits, staying overnight is also a good choice.
📌Day 3 - Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary
Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary is about 30 minutes drive from the centre of Hobart. It is an organisation dedicated to protecting and rescuing injured and orphaned animals. Not only is it a good place to see Tasmania's unique wildlife all in one place, but you can also join a guided tour and learn about the conservation of Australian habitats and wildlife. The ticket fees here will be used to fund the rescue of wildlife, so it is highly recommended that everyone comes here support the cause.
Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary 593 Briggs Rd, Brighton TAS 7030 Mondays to Sundays 9am - 5pm |
If you are a whisky lover, you can't miss the LARK Distillery on Hobart waterfront. Tasmania's climate is similar to that of Scotland, and the whisky produced here is no less delicious! Don't drink? You can go to Van Diemens Land Creamery nearby for ice cream, which I think is the best in Tasmania. I personally recommend the pistachio and chocolate flavours! Their frozen dried ice cream is very good and is packaged well as a great souvenir!
LARK Cellar Door Hobart 14 Davey St, Hobart TAS 7000 Mondays to Sundays 11am - 7pm |
Van Diemens Land Creamery Constitution Dock, 2 Constitution Dock, Hobart TAS 7000 Sundays to Thursdays 12pm - 8pm Fridays and Saturdays 12pm - 9pm |
📌Day 4 - LARK Distillery Pontville
How can a trip to Australia be complete without visiting a winery or distillery? On the last day of the trip, we went to the Pontville branch of LARK distillery . After trying LARK whiskey, it was unforgettable and we decided to come to Pontville to participate in their distillery tour. The atmosphere of the entire tour was very relaxed and pleasant. The tour guide explained attentively, answered every question, and we kept drinking. I was slightly drunk the whole time. Looking back, I feel so good! Even if you don’t drink, it is worth visiting the historical buildings from the 1800s. The surrounding scenery is picturesque. Many locals take wedding photos and hold weddings here.
LARK Distillery Pontville 76 Shene Rd, Pontville TAS 7030 Mondays to Sundays 10am - 4pm |
